Tidal Wave ft Alpines by Sub Focus
Firstly, it is a little surprising to see Mercury Records next to the name of Sub Focus as they prepare to release ‘Tidal Wave ft Alpines’. The man who turned DnB on it’s head, spun it around, levitated it and dropped it back down to Earth with a crushing bout of bassline antics seems to be relishing his recent return to form. Or at least I know that most of us are.
The man who managed to get drum & bass music onto primetime radio is unleashing his second single since his Glastonbury 2010 goodbye. ‘Tidal Wave ft Alpines’ is one of those kind of records that will most certainly gain a lot of airplay if it is not already. It has the delightful pop-style melody over the soaring and fluctuating electro whirls. The relentless drum track is almost signature to his work is a pleasure to hear after being absent for so long.
Of course, this is proper DnB so there has to be a string of remixes too. Shadow Child, Chuckie, Flosstradamus and KillSonik all have their own take on it but perfection can not very often be improved.
This is a belter. For clubland, primetime radio or whether you are having tea with your Nan, it’ll be everywhere, and that’s a good thing.
‘Tidal Wave ft Alpines’ by Sub Focus from Mercury Records is released November 4th, 2012
